FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Who can attend CLW?
While the event is hosted by the Vietnamese Student Association, we have had participants of all ethnicities attend. Students of all backgrounds who are interested in learning about college are all welcome! Parents who are interested may also register to attend.

Can students in junior high (6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade) attend the workshop?
Yes! While most of our applicants are high school students, we have had middle school students attend before, and they enjoyed it. The workshop is definitely geared towards students applying to college. However, middle school students may still attend to learn more about college, and it’s never too late to start. Email us if you have any further questions!

How do I register for CLW?
Please click on the Registration link to register. Parents and students MUST register and have separate registration forms.

How will the workshop be applicable to me?
If you are just learning about college, or in the process of applying, this workshop will help you talk with college students, get a tour of a university campus, and also meet other high school students. You also have the opportunity to win SCHOLARSHIPS. This year, there will be 2 scholarship opportunities available to any student who attends CLW (see link on website for more information).

Will food be provided?
Yes! Free breakfast and lunch will be provided for all parents, students, and volunteers who attend.

How many workshops will there be during CLW?
4 total workshops; College Admissions, Financial Aid, Extracurriculars, and Essay Writing. Additionally, our very special guest, Cindy Dinh, will be our Keynote Speaker and offer her advice and experience in a presentation exclusively for CLW attendees and parents. See the CLW Keynote Speaker page for more details.

Can I be a volunteer for CLW?
Yes, if you are a university student, you can register to be a volunteer. There is a registration form available on the website, which gives more information about what volunteers can do for the workshop. We would love to have you on the team!

Are there pictures from past CLWs available?

How do I get to Rice? Where is the workshop located?
See the Maps & Directions page.

Can I park at a Rice parking lot and what are the parking fees?
Yes, see the Maps & Directions page for more information. We do encourage you to park at Greenbriar Lot so that our volunteers can shuttle you from there directly to Sewall Hall, but you are also welcome to park in West Lot or the Central Campus Garage. VSA will not provide free parking or refund the parking fee. Sorry for the inconvenience! See Rice’s parking facilities and rate information here.

I’ve heard that I can bring a copy of my college application essay for the workshop leader to proofread. Is this true?
Yes! Please bring your college application essays for us! We will review them throughout the day and return them to you at the end of the program.
