College Leadership Workshop

This year, Rice VSA is proud to be hosting its 21st annual College Leadership Workshop (CLW) on Saturday, October 14th, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Check-in and breakfast begin at 8:00 AM and will end at 9:00 AM. This one-day program will include many informative and engaging workshops featuring students and guest speakers covering the subjects of college admissions, financial aid, college application essays, extracurricular activities, and leadership. Student participants will be divided into small groups led by current college students from both Rice University and other Houston-area universities, in which they will have the opportunity to learn about student life and to get answers to their questions from current students themselves in a casual setting. In addition, student participants will have the opportunity to have their college application essays reviewed. Parent participants, if they choose to join us, will be able to attend some student workshops, as well as parent workshops made with resources specifically for parents. Although CLW incorporates certain resources that are specific to Asian-American families (e.g. translators, information on Asian-American scholarships), we strongly encourage all interested high school students of all years from all backgrounds and their parents to participate.

Check-in

Check-in and breakfast will be at the picnic bench area between George R. Brown Hall and Keck Hall. If you were to put this on Google or Apple Maps, it would be “Valhalla.” It is marked on the map in purple. This will be from 8:00 a.m to 9:00 a.m. Please arrive on time, as there will be no volunteers at the check-in area after 9:00 a.m. Students will be receiving their small group assignments, as well as their T-Shirts. Only students will be receiving shirts.

Parking

All-day parking will be at Greenbriar Lot (see blue area below) and will cost $3.00 via card (cash is not accepted). Please only use Greenbriar Lot as there will be CLW volunteers (wearing black CLW shirts) stationed there to guide you.

Drop-off

If you are a parent dropping off a student, please follow the orange routes outlined in the map. You may enter through 1, 2, 3, or 23. Along the road near check-in, you will see CLW volunteers stationed at our drop-off station. You may find directions via Maps by searching “Valhalla Rice.”
